😅 Did any of these facts about IBS surprise you?
😭 There is sadly so much misinformation online right now it is has to know what or who to trust.
1️⃣ IBS does not get worse as we age - it may get worse as your life gets more complicated which typically comes with age age itself is not the issue.
2️⃣ Gluten does not cause IBS symptoms - there are some gluten containing foods which also contain FODMAPs and this can cause issues but not the gluten itself.
3️⃣ The low FODMAP diet only for 4 weeks - it is part of a longer diagnostic process.
4️⃣😭 IBS does not cause weight gain - yes if you are overweight then having IBS can make it difficult to lose weight because lower calorie foods tends to contain high amounts of FODMAPs and some exercises could trigger symptoms but IBS itself does not cause weight gain.
5️⃣ Soluble fiber helps diarrhea - this may or may not be true but we need to consider more than just the solubility - we also need to consider how fermentable that fiber is because this could cause loose stools regardless of solubility.
6️⃣IBS is not just managed by medication - it is a multifactorial condition and so we need to consider multiple ways to tackle it which may or may not include medication but medication is not the only thing which will help.
