Hi Olivia,
Blood in your stools is not a symptom of IBS.
IBS is a functional bowel disorder, so it does not cause physical damage to the digestive tract.
When you have IBS, some mucus in your stools can be a common occurrence and is generally not something to worry about.
However, blood in your stool could indicate another condition, some of which are easily treated, and some that require further serious intervention.
So, what may cause blood in your stools?
• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Colorectal cancer
• Diverticular disease
• Haemorrhoids
• Stomach ulcer
🚨 Please note that this does not replace professional medical advice. Please always consult a doctor if you have blood in your stool or excessive mucus in your stool.
